Vegan Style French Onion Dip
This is a low fat vegetarian version of this favorite food that doesn’t have all the artificial things and high amounts of salt that are found in the instant mixes. The flavor is all natural from oven-roasted onions, low salt soy sauce, and herbs.
A 12 ounce of low fat sour cream or vegetarian sour cream
1 medium onion that is sliced into half inch slices
1 Tablespoon of olive oil
1 Tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
one quarter ground black pepper
Half a teaspoon of dried thyme
Half a teaspoon of low sodium soy sauce
1 teaspoon of sea salt
Directions: Preheat oven to 450 degrees and combine oil, onion, vinegar, sea salt, and pepper on nonstick cooking sheet. Bake for about 19 minutes or when you see the onions are browned. Put the mixture in a medium bowl to cool.
Coarse chop the rest of the onion slices and put it back in the bowl stirring in the sour cream, soy sauce, and thyme. Season the rest with remaining sea salt and fresh pepper. Put in a serving bowl. Serves about 12
You can eat this dip with whole grain crackers or tortilla chips or fresh vegetables
